At Simpson Arboriculture, we understand the importance of maintaining the natural beauty of your garden. One key aspect of achieving that pristine and tidy look is hedge trimming. More than just a routine task, hedge trimming requires skill, knowledge and a keen eye for detail. In this blog, we will delve into the world of hedge trimming and explore how it can transform your garden.

Hedge Trimming: Benefits Beyond Aesthetics

While the aesthetic appeal of well-trimmed hedges is undeniable, there’s more to hedge trimming than meets the eye. Regular trimming promotes the health and vigour of your plants. Removing overgrown or dead branches encourages new growth, enhances air circulation and prevents disease. Our expert arborists at Simpson Arboriculture not only craft visually appealing hedges, but also ensure the longevity of your hedges through proper care and maintenance.

Hedge trimming: The Science

Hedge trimming is a delicate balance between artistic expression and scientific knowledge. We carefully consider factors such as the type and species of hedge, its growth patterns and appropriate time of year for work to be carried out. Our team at Simpson Arboriculture combine years of experience with up-to-date arboricultural knowledge and skills to create beautiful, trimmed hedges that will continue to thrive for years to come.

Our tools

Our team of arborists will choose their tools carefully to achieve the desired outcome. This will depend on the size and species of the hedge, as well as what the access is like. For example, they may use electric hedge trimmers to achieve an even finish. They may also use pole pruners or long reach hedge trimmers for those trickier to reach places. For larger hedges, the team can use ladders or a MEWP to allow them to work safely at height. The tools and approach always depend on each individual job to ensure both precision and efficiency in the work carried out.

Conclusion

Hedge trimming is more than a routine task; it’s both an art and a science. Our skilled arborists bring together the science of arboriculture and the creativity of design to transform your hedges into an important asset of your garden, transforming them with a precise and tidy look. With a focus on hedge health, precision and a personalised service, we’re committed to helping you achieve the best possible outcome for your garden. Contact us today to arrange your free quote. Trees have an enduring presence in our towns and cities, both here in Lincolnshire and further afield. They can seem to blend seamlessly into the urban fabric. Yet, maintaining these natural treasures on busy streets is no small feat. In this blog, we will explore the delicate balance between nature and urbanisation. We will also discuss the vital role that tree surgery plays in nurturing this relationship.

Tree Surgery: Embracing Nature Amidst Concrete

As our towns and cities continue to grow, green spaces have become increasingly precious. Trees are vital components of a healthy urban ecosystem. They provide oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, provide shade and cool air temperatures. However, the juxtaposition of towering trees against towering buildings creates a unique set of challenges. Tree roots can disrupt pavements and branches can endanger power lines. Trees that are not regularly maintained can pose the risk of blocking paths, roads and cycleways. This is where tree surgeons come in.

Tree Surgery: Elevating Urban Greenery

Simpson Arboriculture are a dedicated team of fully qualified tree surgeons with many years’ experience. Our team understands the challenges of carrying out tree surgery in urban environments.

Our professional team are well versed in carrying out technically tricky jobs, working in spaces with limited access, near busy public roads and avoiding obstacles. We have the right machinery to carry out tree work in hard-to-reach places and always aim for the safest and most efficient approach. Our team use traffic management, appropriate signage to notify the public and will clearly mark out any work zone to keep members of the public safe.

Our Services: Nurturing Urban Trees

Tree pruning: Trees need regular maintenance to ensure they don’t encroach on buildings, power lines or pedestrian pathways. Simpson Arboriculture’s team of skilled arborists can carry out tree pruning, crown reductions and crown lifting. This always depends on what is best to maintain the health of the tree, whilst ensuring safety and functionality in its environment.

Tree removal: In cases where trees pose a risk, they may require removal. We decide on the best approach to carry out the work with minimal disruption.

Preserving Urban Beauty

Through a holistic approach that combines arboricultural skills and knowledge and a love of nature, our team at Simpson Arboriculture can strike the balance between nurturing greenery and maintaining urban functionality. As our towns and cities continue to evolve, the role of urban tree surgery becomes ever more important. Simpson Arboriculture are committed to preserving and enriching the urban landscape.

A well-maintained garden is a source of pride for any homeowner. It can be a sanctuary of beauty and tranquillity that allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One key element that can enhance the aesthetics, privacy and security of your garden is the right fencing. At Simpson Arboriculture, we not only specialise in tree surgery, but also offer a high-quality fencing service to help transform your outdoor space. In this blog, we’ll explore how the perfect fencing can enhance your garden in more ways than one.

Aesthetic Appeal

The right fencing can significantly enhance the overall look of your garden. It acts as a stylish frame, defining the boundaries and adding character to the landscape. Whether you prefer a rustic Lincolnshire post and rail fence or a sleek lattice top wooden panel fencing, we can help. Your choice of fencing can complement the existing elements of your garden and our team are always happy to advise you on different options.

Privacy and Seclusion

In a world where privacy is a precious commodity, a well-constructed fence can provide the seclusion you want. It creates a barrier that shields your garden from neighbours and passers by. This allows you to fully enjoy your outdoor space without feeling exposed. Our comprehensive fencing service offers various options, from 6ft panel fencing to trellises you can cover in climbing plants. The right fencing can provide the privacy you need while maintaining an inviting atmosphere.

 Security and safety

Gardens are often home to valuable plants, outdoor furniture and can be play areas for children and pets. The right fencing can enhance security, deterring trespassers and keeping your belongings safe. Sturdy fencing can also prevent unwanted animals from entering, reducing the risk of damage to your garden. At Simpson Arboriculture, we prioritise not only the aesthetic but also the durability and security aspects of the fences we install.

Creating functional zones

A well-designed garden offers distinct functional zones, such as a dining area, a play area or a relaxation corner. Fences can help define these zones, creating a sense of organisation and order. By strategically placing fences, you can visually separate these areas while maintaining a cohesive overall design.

Supporting Plant Life

Fences aren’t just standalone structures; they can also serve as support for climbing plants and vines. By incorporating trellises or lattice-work into your fences, you can create vertical gardens that add an extra layer of beauty to your outdoor space. These green elements soften the look of the fence and blend it seamlessly with the surrounding vegetation.

Summer may still be upon us, but at Simpson Arboriculture we know that the colder months are just around the corner. As the leaves start to change and evenings grow crisper, there’s no better feeling than curling up in front of a roaring fire.

To enjoy those cosy autumn nights, preparation is key! Simpson Arboriculture deliver high quality kiln-dried logs all year round. There are so many reasons why now is the perfect time to get stocked up ready for autumn!

Kiln-Dried Logs: Advantages

Kiln-drying is a meticulous process. It involves carefully removing moisture from the wood, resulting in logs that burn hotter, cleaner, and more efficiently. Traditional air-dried logs can retain excess moisture, produce more smoke and creosote build-up. In contrast, kiln-dried logs offer a consistent and controlled burn. This means less hassle, less maintenance, and more warmth for your home.

At Simpson Arboriculture, we take care of the whole process from start to finish. Our logs are sustainably sourced using BSL authorised virgin wood. The Ready to Burn Scheme officially recognise us as an approved supplier, so you can rest assured that the logs you receive are of the highest quality. We test the moisture content to ensure this is below 20%.

Why Stock up Now?

Guaranteed Quality. We carefully select, process and dry logs in our kiln to ensure that our customers experience a quality burn every time.

Beating the Rush. As the weather cools down, the demand for firewood naturally increases. By getting stocked up early, you’re beating the rush and ensuring that you have a ready supply of premium firewood ready as soon as you need it.

Peace of Mind. Imagine the satisfaction of knowing that you’re fully prepared for the colder season ahead. With your firewood supply already in place, you can focus on enjoying the changing seasons without worrying about a last-minute firewood purchase.

Simpson Arboriculture: Your Local Source for Kiln-Dried Logs

Simpson Arboriculture take pride in supplying our local customers with high quality, kiln-dried firewood logs. Many of our customers come back to us year. Trees are essential to our environment. They provide us with shade, clean air and a connection to nature. However, there are instances when trees need to go. Tree removal may be necessary due to safety concerns, disease or landscape requirements. At Simpson Arboriculture, our dedicated team of arborists understand the delicate balance between preserving nature and insuring safety. In this blog, we’ll explore the various reasons why trees might need to be removed and how our tree removal services can help you maintain a safe and beautiful landscape.

Safety First: Hazardous Trees

While trees enhance the beauty of any landscape, they can also pose significant risk if they become hazardous. Trees with compromised structural integrity due to disease or storm damage can become unstable. Dead or weakened branches might fall unexpectedly, endangering people and property. Our certified arborists at Simpson Arboriculture have the expertise to assess the health of your trees and can recommend any action that might need to be taken. If tree removal is necessary, we prioritise the safety of your property and everyone around it.

Disease Control and Prevention

Trees, like any other living organisms, can fall victim to diseases that can spread to neighbouring vegetation. If a tree is diseased and this cannot be treated effectively, tree removal can be the best option. By acting promptly, you can protect the health of other trees on your property and maintain a vibrant, disease-free landscape.

Landscape enhancement

Sometimes, tree removal is necessary to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of your outdoor space. Overgrown trees might block sunlight, inhibit the growth of other plants, or disrupt the balance of your landscaping design. Our arborists can help you decide which trees should be removed to improve the overall look of your garden. We’ll also provide recommendations for suitable replacement trees to maintain the natural beauty of your landscape.

Expert Tree Removal Services

When it comes to tree removal, it’s essential to hire professionals with the right equipment, knowledge and experience. At Simpson Arboriculture, we employ a skilled team of arborists and use advanced equipment to ensure safe and efficient tree removal. We have invested in the highest range machinery available. We utilise modern techniques to get the job done quickly and efficiently. Every job is different, but we have the right tools to get the job done.

At Simpson Arboriculture, we understand the importance of taking responsibility for the environment. While tree removal is sometimes necessary, we are committed to promoting sustainable practices. We recycle 100% of our waste. Wood chippings become fuel in biomass boilers, or are used as garden mulch. All waste wood is recycled into firewood logs or used in our boilers for fuel to heat our log kiln.

Whenever possible, we explore alternative solutions, such as pruning or crown reducing a tree to mitigate risks and preserve valuable trees. Additionally, we can offer guidance on options for replanting and actively encourage this wherever possible.

If you’re a homeowner or property manager, you understand the importance of maintaining a beautiful and functional garden. However, after removing a tree from your landscape, you might be left with an unsightly stump that not only spoils the aesthetics of your garden but can also pose safety hazards. At Simpson Arboriculture, we can help our customers reclaim their gardens and make them safe, beautiful and enjoyable spaces. In this blog, we will discuss the benefits of stump grinding and how our expert team can assist you with revitalising your outdoor space.

The Challenge of Tree Stumps

Tree removal is often necessary. This could be due to disease, storm damage, or to make space for new landscaping projects. However, what remains after the tree is felled is a tree stump that can cause numerous issues:

  1. Safety hazards. Tree stumps can be hazardous, especially if they’re hidden by grass or foliage.
  2. Attracting pests. Decaying stumps provide a perfect environment for pests like ants and other insects to thrive. Over time, these pests could spread to other areas of your garden.
  3. Aesthetics. A garden should be a place of beauty and tranquillity. A stump can disrupt this and often hinders future gardening plans.
  4. Hindrance to landscaping. Stumps can impede the development of new landscaping projects, like building a patio, installing a fence, or planting new trees.

The Solution: Stump Grinding

Stump grinding is the most efficient and eco-friendly way to address the issues caused by tree stumps. Unlike some stump removal methods that involve digging out the entire stump, stump grinding involves using specialised machinery to grind the stump to below ground level.

At Simpson Arboriculture, we use our specialist Rayco RG37T stump grinder. It is a very powerful, tracked stump-cutting machine. Being under a metre wide, this machine can fit through most garden gates and its rubber tracks mean minimal damage to the grass/ ground underneath. The machine, used by our trained operators, is effective by cutting away at the tree stump using carbide teeth attached to a spinning wheel.

Other options for stump treatment and removal

Sometimes, stump grinding is not possible or practical. This may be due to access or the scale of the tree stump. Here are several other options that we also offer at Simpson Arboriculture, to help you reclaim your garden and tackle tree stump issues.

Eco plugs- We offer the use eco plugs which are small capsules containing granular glyphosate. Our team drill these capsules into the stump. They are highly effective and help the stump and roots to decompose naturally into the soil. The great news is that they are safe for use in gardens with children and pets running around.

Whenever the use of a stump grinder is not possible or practical, we would recommend the use of eco plugs. These are a great option for when there is limited or narrow access, or the weight of a machine would cause damage to more delicate ground surfaces.

Stump digging- For larger tree stumps, we are also able to offer stump digging using our excavators. The pulled-up stumps can then be mulched and incorporated into the ground.

At Simpson Arboriculture, we take immense pride in our tree pruning and are committed to enhancing the beauty of your landscape. Trees are not only a vital part of our environment; they are also a significant investment in your property. Proper tree care and maintenance is essential to ensure their health, longevity and aesthetic appeal. In this blog, we will explore the art and science of tree pruning and how it can unlock the full potential of your trees.

Understanding the importance of tree pruning

Tree pruning is not simply about trimming away branches. It is a carefully planned and executed process aimed at improving tree health and structure. Pruning can remove dead, diseased or damaged branches, thus improving the overall health of the tree. Proper pruning can also transform the appearance of your trees, shaping them to complement your landscape and improving the visual appeal of your garden.

By eliminating crowded or crossing branches, pruning allows more sunlight and air circulation and stimulates new growth. Furthermore, regular attention reduces the risk of falling branches, thus making the tree safer. Our expert team of arborists at Simpson Arboriculture are qualified and experienced in carrying out tree pruning to a high standard.

The art of tree pruning: techniques

Different species and their growth patterns require specific pruning techniques for optimal results. Some common pruning methods include:

Crown thinning. This involves selectively removing inner branches to improve light penetration and air circulation within the crown, promoting healthy growth.

Crown raising. Raising the lower branches can create clearance for pedestrians, vehicles and buildings while maintaining the tree’s integrity.

Crown reduction. When a tree has grown too large for its surroundings, crown reduction helps reduce its height and spread, ensuring that it remains safe and visually appealing.

Deadwood removal. Removing dead or dying branches not only improves the tree’s appearance, but also eliminates potential hazards.

The science behind tree pruning

Pruning is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It requires a thorough understanding of tree biology and growth patterns. Our skilled arborists at Simpson Arboriculture assess each tree and recommend an approach accordingly. Factors such as species, age, health and time of year all play a part in determining the pruning approach that is needed.

Our team ensures that pruning is carried out during the appropriate seasons, as different trees respond differently to pruning at various times of the year. For example, deciduous trees are best pruned during their dormant season, while some flowering trees are pruned after they bloom.
